Easter Sunrise Services

Easter Sunrise Services are held at Ocean Resorts every Easter Season. This year, Delton was honored by a request to be the main speaker at the services.

The services began at 6:45 am and the sun rose at 7:05. It was sooooo early, but sooooo beautiful. God sure knew what he was doing when he created this world for us. He loved us so much that He died for us!

A cross was erected in the sand, right in front of the steps leading to the beach from the boardwalk. Many came from Ocean Resorts and the surrounding condos. About 180 people attended. See the crowded coming down the boardwalk.

A trumpeter started the service. A keyboard was set up on the beach for music and sound equipment made it easy for everyone to hear. The thunder of the waves in the background was loud!
Jack played a solo on his stringed instrument (I can't remember what it is called) and he was accompanied by himself on the piano which was pre-recorded and put on CD. Also a few sang solos.
As Delton was giving the message, the sun was rising behind him. WHAT A SIGHT! GLORIOUS!
After the service was over, everyone was invited to the poolside patio for coffee, juice, donuts and more.

The cross was left in the sand all day. As people walked the beach, swam and sat in their beach chairs, the cross stood brightly in view as a reminder of what Easter means to all of us.

Life at Ocean Resorts

As the 2008-2009 winter season at Ocean Resorts come to a close, we are already looking forward to next winter. We have already decided we want to come back here again. We've made so many close friends and there are so many activites here that it is hard to go somewhere else.

Here a few more of the highlights of our winter. Tennis, of coarse, has been our biggest activity, with daily play and many tournaments. We enjoyed every minute of tennis - Delton too! He played more than Joni - isn't that amazing! Biking was our main mode of transportation. See Delton on his way to his next tennis match!

We had a cool winter this year, but we still enjoyed the beach. Pictured are friends, John and Karen, on the beach with us.

We hosted Karaoke in the Rec Hall on five different occasions. The crowds weren't as big as in Fun Valley, Colorado, but we still had a great time. See Gene singing a special song to Nancy.

One of the best investments Joni has ever made was a kayak. She went kayaking with Nancy and others many times. See Nancy and Joni on their trip to an island paradise.

Delton held another Bible Study this year, doing a chapter by chapter, verse by verse, study of the Book of Daniel. Shown is a picture of our Bible Study class! (Joni took the picture)

Alas, our winter is over and we will be "on the road again" after Easter. Our next adventure leads us back to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. We went there a few years ago and liked it so much that we decided to go back. We will stop in Hilton Head for a few nights on the way.
See you in Hilton Head!

College Friends Visit

Gayle and Dean McGibbon are "old" friends of ours. They live in Lakeland, Florida. Gayle and Joni went to college together at the University of New York at Potsdam. And funny thing is we don't look any different than we did when we were in college!

They came to visit us at Ocean Resorts. One of our Ocean Resorts friends, Yvonne, owns a beautiful motorhome which happened to be unoccupied at the time of the McGibbons' visit. Yvonne offered us use of her motorhome for Gayle and Dean....what a friend!!!!!! So, Gaye and Dean had their first motorhome experience. It was parked only a few spots from us and that made it very convenient for our visit. Dean was ready to take off with it.....(See photo - and NO - it was not driven anywhere!) Thanks Yvonne!

We had a great time with our friends. Beaching and kayaking were the best! The weather was beautiful!

Gayle and Dean had their first kayak experience AND their first encounter with a manatee. See Dean petting the manatee. Dean almost had a heart attack when the manatee swam under his kayak and rocked the boat. Oooooooo! When we pulled into marina we saw the manatee and they were having a great time - mating! (See photo)

It was sun catching up with old friends and we hope to see them again soon.

A Hoedown and A Luau

Two fun events at Ocean Resorts are the Hoe Down and the Luau. Both were held on the patio and poolside, next to the Rec Hall.

The Luau is one of the most popular events. Usually everyone enjoys the pool for a swim, a delicious diner and some music and dancing. This year, the weather was too cool for the swim, but we all enjoyed the other stuff - even if it was very windy!

Line dancing was very popular.. see Joni (in blue) in the middle of the pack! Also see Nancy and Andy rockin and rollin!

Nancy White enjoyed a kiss from a parrot... do you think is was alive????

Delton and Emery are enjoying the luau on this very windy day.

The Hoe Down was also enjoyed by many. We didn't take as many pictures, but you can see our friend Nancy in her cowboy hat, dancing and having fun. Also on display is the coral with the Ocean Resorts horses watching all the fun.

Murder in Paradise - Skit

The Tennis Committee at Ocean Resorts puts on an annual tennis party. This year's party was held in the recreation hall on site and included a diner murder mystery skit called - MURDER IN PARADISE.

Joni was asked to be part of the cast this year and she said - OK! The plot was about a murder which occurred in the bathroom and the people who attended the party had to guess "who done it!

Joni played the part of Toodles! She was a hot tennis player who was having a affair with Igor. Did she kill the victim???? The victim was the wife of Igor. (See Joni as a BLOND)

Polumbo Columbo (See John in the overcoat) was the inspector who was investigating the crime. Nancy White narrated the skit.

Drucinda, the latrine queen, ended up being the murderer. The victim was her brother.
The skit was silly, but funny for the tennis people at Ocean Resorts.

Joni and Delton hosted a karaoke session at the end of the party. Fun was had by all!

Manned Shuttle Launch

Ocean Resorts is located about 100 miles south of Cape Canaveral. Shuttle launches are clearly visible, especially looking over the ocean. The pictures look like the shuttle was launched in the dark, but actually, it was dusk.

On Wednesday night, 3/18/09, we stopped our weekly bridge game (6 tables of bridge) to run out onto the deck of the pool, which overlooks the ocean, to watch the shuttle launch.

It was about 7:40 pm, so the sun was almost down. The launch was spectacular. We could see a large ball of fire which left a long smoke trail. As the sun was going down, the smoke trail became full with the colors of the rainbow. The pictures don't do the event justice.

Full Moon Kayaking

Kayaking in the MOONLIGHT! What can be better!!!!

A group of us, about 12 kayaks (Joni is in the royal blue kayak) and 3 boats, decided to take a full moon kayak ride out to one of the islands on the intercoastal (Indian River), have a picnic and then paddle back to Ocean Resorts in the moon light. It was outstanding!!!

We brought our diner and lit a fire.... watched dophin swimming all around us (see photo - it's hard to spot the dolphin - little spot in left/middle of the picture) and enjoyed each other's company!

We brought blinking lights, flashlights and glow in the dark bracelets for our float back in the dark. Sorry..... all our pictures that were taken in the dark did not come out. But, the moon light was bright and we could see pretty well with the moon light shining over the water. It was so peaceful!

At times, I wondered what was lurking below as we floated over the dark water. Joni was in her kayak, but Delton was riding in one of our friend's boats. The 3 motor boats were escorts for the kayaks.

Could this be beach paradise???? I think so!!!!
