Luxury RV Park in Indo, CA

Outdoor Resorts in Indio, California is probably the most luxurious RV park in the country. Indio is just 20 miles from Palm Springs, a very upscale and beautiful area in the desert. As you can see, the mountains surround the park creating a great view from every direction.
The entrance has flowers on all sides with fountains on either side of the drive in. See photo. Flowers also line both sides of the street as you approach the entrance.

Our site was the on the highest spot in the park, overlooking a canal with a wall of flowers next to us (see 2 photos). Our motor home is the white one with the green swish on it. It was one of the oldest motor homes in the park. Only motorhomes were allowed in (no 5th wheels, trailers or tents) and they could not be older than 10 years old. Ours just made it in.

Joni was able to float around in her kayak during our stay. Notice the beautiful setting while paddling around the park. This picture of Joni in her kayak is taken next to our site, heading under the bridge.

Amenitities included a golf course, tennis courts (see photo of courts behind the brook and bridge), pools, canals, private boat dock at each site, work out room, restaurant, and more. (See the pictures of the canals along side the golf course)


The RV lots are privately owned. Not all the lots have been sold yet. We were given a FREE 5 night/6 day stay as a promotion to sell the lots, yet we were not required to tour the park or listen to a sales pitch. WHAT A DEAL! We were given the coupon by some friends in the Outdoor Resorts Rancho California which is the previous park we stayed in. The lots normally rent for $95/night and you can rent through the office or privately through the owners.

Each owner has upgraded their spots with various amenitites. Look carefully and you will even see a lot with a POOL overlooking the canal. Yes, some owners have actually built pools on their RV lots. Also notice beautiful patios, cascading flowers with fountains of flowing water, boat docks with electric powered boats and more.

The canals allow about 1 mile of floating from one end of the park to the other.

This has got to be the most beautiful RV park in the country. By the way, if you'd like to buy a lot here, you can buy the one we were in for a little over $300,000 (basically a driveway). One lot with many amenitites already finished out lists for over $700,000.

Tennis with Ray and Zerol

Being the tennis lovers that we are, we tried to play as much tennis as we could while at Outdoor Resorts Rancho California. There were 6 courts there. Mostly we played singles because we couldn't find any tennis players there.

One afternoon we arrived at the courts to find another couple warming up. We asked them if they would like to join us for doubles. They did and we enjoyed many more days of playing doubles with them. We were pretty evenly matched so our games were great.

We even played the women against the men a few times. We each won a set. Ray and Zerol had to leave after about a week, so we never had our tie braking match.

We also played with another couple, Steve and Elaine, but I didn't get any pictures of them.

Views on the Road

Here are a few spots of interest along the road and from our travels from "here to there". On the way to California we drove through the desert. Pictured is the DESERT sands btween Arizona and California!

On a drive to Indio/Palm Springs, we drove along Highway 74, a very hilly road of switchbacks. There is an overlook along the road, so we stopped to get a picture. See Joni overlooking Indio. We went from an elevation of about 5000 feet to 300 in about 5 miles.

While staying in Outdoor Resorts Rancho California, we climbed the mountain behind our RV site. Pictured is Delton overlooking our RV park. Also pictured is Joni sitting on a rock with the park behind her.

Driving along Route 10 through Palm Springs, we came across "windmill alley".
Everywhere we looked, we saw windmills, hundred of them. It was also VERY WINDY. Great source of power. It sure can push the motor home all over the road.

Newport Beach, California

Driving up and down the coast of California and seeing all the beaches along Route 1 is a great way to spend an afternoon.

Newport Beach was one of our stops. We brought our bikes with us that day and rode about 10 miles up and down the beach.

The beach is partly commercial and partly residential. Homes are built right on the beach with beautiful ocean views. Even though they are small, we're sure they come with a pretty big price tag. Right in front of the homes is the (concrete) boardwalk for biking, roller blading, jogging, running, walking your dog, or whatever..... Beach stores, restaurants, ice cream shops, etc. are along the public beach. Joni loves beach shops and ice cream.
We walked out onto the pier and watched some of the surfers trying to catch the perfect wave. They seemed to wait for a long time and when they decided to pick a wave to ride, most of the time they fell right in.

We noticed one surfer in particular that seemed more interesting than the others. He was paddling out to catch his wave standing on his surfboard and paddling out with a real paddle, instead of lying on their stomach and paddling with their hands. He did a great job of balancing. (see picture). When he had finally picked his wave, his rode it in, but he was paddling with his real paddle while standing (see picture)

We were surprised to see so many people in the water, although the surfers were in their wet suits. It was a chilly day, in the low to mid 60's and we were wearing sweatshirts while riding our bikes.

After Newport Beach, we drove north to Huntington Beach. The beach was beautiful and big as was the surrounding area. Sorry, but we didn't get any pictures of Huntington Beach. Joni still likes Florida better - (Delton still likes the mountains better).

Seals on the Beach

As we drove up the coast between San Diego and Oceanside, we came across a spot where many people were stopped and looking out at the ocean. We thought they were watching surfers, so we decided to stop and watch too. They weren't surfers, they were lazy seals, sunning themselves on the beach.

Signs were posted that said not to disturb them, but we were allowed to go out on the sand close to them if we wanted to. Nobody did, so we didn't either.

We watched as they came on to the sand and headed out to sea. Mostly they just slept there, rolling over and getting comforable. There were a few baby seals snuggling near their moms. That was cute!

Joni listend to a news broadcast, not long ago, which said the seals were causing a problem. Some of them were trying to cross the road and causing havick. They were being "encouraged" to stay on the sand and in the water.

USS Midway

The USS Midway is an aircraft carrier that is now docked in San Diego. It has served America for 47 years, starting at the end of WWII and ending with Desert Storm and the liberation of Kuwait in 1991. It was decommissioned in 1992 in San Diego and opened as a museum in 2004.

Some of the planes displayed on this carrier were used in Top Gun. A helicopter was used to rescue the Apollo astronauts after they returned from a space trip. (See Joni inside a helicopter)

We toured the ship on a sunny beautiful day. We went through many areas including, the brig, the mess halls, the officers’ quarters, galleys, the war room (see the map of Bagdad) , the flight deck, the jail (See Delton in the jail, similar to the dog house he is usually in), the sick bay and much more.

We learned how the planes took off, how they landed, how they were repaired, how they were fueled…. (see Delton and Joni in the cockpits)

Touring this ship has brought us back to the realization of how proud we are to be Americans. More Americans should experience the honor of seeing what our military do to protect us and keep America free in this day of political correctness and terrorism. We are a great and strong country and pray that God will continue to bless America.

Golf Scramble at Outdoor Resorts

Outdoor Resorts Rancho California has many activities, including golf. We entered a Saturday morning golf scramble and had a wonderful time. Our group came in 2nd place scoring 3 under par. Each player won $9.00.

Our group consisted of Delton, John, Dave and myself. It was a couples scramble, but more men showed up than women, so some of the men were paired together.

The course is a par 3 course, so it is small but challenging with all the sand and water on each hole. Adding to the beauty of the course are many water falls and fountains with the mountain views all around.

Two of the holes challenged each player to a "closest to hole" contest. Delton won "closest to hole" on hole #3. He won $16.

As you can see, this is a beautiful park, nestled in the mountains near Temecula, California.


Delton played in another scramble earlier in the week and his group came in 1st place on that day. Guess we should play more often........
